Health & Health Technologies
We live in an era where science and technology are advancing at a dizzying pace, causing many industries to face continuous updates and the necessity to keep up with these developments. At the forefront of these sectors is health and health technologies. This is because healthcare involves human lives, leaving no room for error. Consequently, all services and policies within this field must be conducted with far greater sensitivity compared to other sectors.
Technological advancements are driving profound transformations across every aspect of life, including healthcare. However, this transformation progresses proportionally with development. Until recently, many products, applications, devices, diagnostic methods, and treatments in healthcare were relatively unknown but are now closely followed thanks to the advancements in science and technology. Innovations such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, 3D organ printing, robotic surgery techniques, data mining, and personalized treatment and nutrition programs based on DNA profiles highlight the accelerating pace of change in this field.
As one of the sectors benefiting most from technology, healthcare continues its rapid digital transformation. On a global scale, health forms a fundamental pillar of the economy. According to World Health Organization data from 2018, global health expenditures reached 8.3 trillion USD—equivalent to 10% of the global GDP. Between 2000 and 2018, government health spending per capita consistently increased. Currently, in developing countries, out-of-pocket health expenditures by individuals have risen to approximately 40% of total health spending. Turkey’s health expenditures have also steadily increased since 2009.
